Abstract

ABSTRACT

Effective interpersonal communication is crucial for college students to build harmonious social relationships in an academic environment. However, pressures and interaction barriers often arise, necessitating adaptive strategies such as a sense of humor to overcome them. This study examines the relationship between sense of humor and interpersonal communication among college students in Palembang. Using a quantitative correlational approach, the study involved 102 active students (aged 18-23) selected via Purposive Sampling. Data analysis was performed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between the two variables with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05$) and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.445. These findings indicate that higher sense of humor correlates with better interpersonal communication skills, where humor effectively functions to create a supportive interaction climate.
